White Papers On Window Film

Energy Analysis for Window Films Applications in New and Existing Homes and Offices©

Window film was found to be the most cost-effective energy saving choice for Californians when used in retrofit applications in homes and buildings, according to the non-profit International Window Film Association in an independent analysis performed by ConSol. The study compared installing window film on existing structures in California to other traditional energy saving techniques such as updating HVAC systems, air sealing and caulking. Window film stood out as an energy savings winner.

Performance Films' Products Deliver a Positive Impact for the Environment

The results from a recently completed Life Cycle assessment study conclude that Solutia's Performance Films' products deliver a positive impact for the environment.

Through Harmony Environmental, LLC, an independent third party, a Life Cycle Assessment was completed, consistent with International Standards Organization (ISO) standards, at the end of 2010 and concluded that the division’s solar-control architectural window film products become carbon neutral less than two months after installation. With an average service life of 15 years, this means that our products are typically providing 14-plus years of greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions after accounting for the products’ total carbon footprint.

Energy Saving Trends in the Facility Design and Management Industry

Within a relatively short period of time, the focus on being 'green' has transitioned from a niche aspect of the facility design and management industry to a standard consideration. The demand for residential and commercial facility managers, building designers and architects who are educated in energy savings measures and LEED® standards has grown at a rapid pace.

As the industry evolves, certain trends are emerging and with them comes knowledge of how to overcome barriers to implementing energy-saving projects. Both industry trends and shared advice for overcoming these obstacles are explored in the following pages, as drawn from an independent study of industry professionals

Comparative Analysis of Retrofit Window Film to Replacement with High Performance Windows

Energy saving films are increasingly being used worldwide to lower building energy costs by reducing excessive solar heat gain through windows.

This paper will highlight the comparative cost savings per dollar invested for retrofit of existing windows with energy saving window film compared to window replacement with new solar-control low-e windows.

Creating An Energy-Efficient Building Envelope Using Solar-Control Window Films

Solar-control films are used worldwide as an effective means of lowering building energy costs by reducing excessive solar heat gain through windows. Determining energy savings from actual installations is difficult due to the common practice of implementing several energy conservation measures simultaneously and due to annual variations in the many factors that can affect a building's energy usage.

To isolate and quantify the energy-saving benefits of solar films, an energy analysis study on a conventional office building was undertaken using the U.S. Department of Energy's sophisticated DOE-2 energy-simulation software. The study included several types of solar films applied to various glazing systems. Various cities were included in the study to illustrate the energy savings in different climates and to show the effect of differing electricity costs.

A Review and Examination of EnerLogic™ Window Film Performance Claims

Solutia Performance Films recently launched a new architectural window film with the brand-name EnerLogic. Unlike most window films, that produce savings only during the cooling season, EnerLogic window film is an all-season, low-emissivity (low-e) film that produces savings during warmer and cooler seasons.
